Projects & References

For more than 25 years we have been delivering demanding projects for corporations and mid-sized companies. Here is a selection.

Vodafone

Vodafone GmbH and Vodafone Group Plc are our longest-standing and largest clients. Since 2000 we have supported hundreds of projects and developed, built and run platforms. We share strong mutual trust, and Vodafone values our reliability and expertise.

Digital ordering platform for business customers

Together with Vodafone we have consistently digitised ordering processes for business customers that had grown over many years. A platform developed and run by us now guides users through the entire process, from configuring products through approvals and contract to fulfilment. The business processes are modelled in BPMN, and partners and internal teams connect their systems through a dedicated API.

What first had to be invented for this was a product catalogue with a rule engine. Before a product can be ordered digitally, it has to be fully understood and described as rules, with all dependencies, price corridors and approval limits. No standard product covered that. The catalogue we designed and built for it checks configuration, price and technical data at the point of entry, is tested like software and feeds sales, approval, documents and fulfilment from one shared product tree. Errors are caught while sales is still talking to the customer, not later in fulfilment.

From more than 25 years of project history

  • Building and running a cloud platform based on Kubernetes
  • App push for the MeinVodafone app
  • Mobile payment by phone and online payment with Adyen, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay and Klarna
  • High-performance platforms for MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), including our own load-testing tools
  • Development and operation of the Vodafone live! portal
  • Technical consulting for web and WAP operations as well as technical design

Where it all began: Wap-A-Party

In early 2000 we developed Wap-A-Party, a WAP community for the launch of the mobile internet in Germany. After receiving an award at the D2 Developer Award in March 2000, D2 Vodafone took over the service and commissioned us to develop it further. Wap-A-Party became one of the most popular WAP services in the D2 portfolio and the basis for further campaign sites. Until it was discontinued in 2019, almost 20 years later, we kept developing and running the service. It grew with its users: login via the Vodafone customer account, photo galleries from parties and concerts, uploads by email and later through a dedicated Android app. The start of a partnership that continues to this day.

OXG Glasfaser

OXG is the joint venture of Vodafone and Altice for the fibre roll-out in Germany. A roll-out of this scale depends on data from the field: which house connection is finished, what was installed, who signed it off, and which site is behind schedule?

For OXG we develop and run the business applications for this:

  • On-site documentation: installers record house connections directly on the construction site, including photos, cable assignment and acceptance report. The signature is digital, and the finished report is generated automatically as a PDF.
  • Roll-out control: roll-out milestones and SLAs are tracked per site and cluster, so deviations are spotted early.

The applications run on AWS, and the entire infrastructure is described as infrastructure as code and set up identically for all environments.

GfK

GfK is Germany’s largest market research institute. For GfK we develop and run a VPN access and management solution: access is managed centrally, connections are authenticated via RADIUS and all events are logged traceably.

Mondia Media Group

For Mondia we developed and ran a specialised mobile platform for internet-capable devices without smartphone capabilities. It was based on server-side rendering with a heavily reduced HTML subset, so that even simple feature phones could display content quickly and reliably.

From the early years

The following projects date from our first years, when J2EE, Struts and Solaris were state of the art. Even then, the work was about high-availability systems across several data centres, automating routine work and developers running their own systems.

Santander Direkt Bank

Together with e-Spirit AG we developed the online banking solution of Santander Direkt Bank, from integrating the FirstSpirit content management system to connecting the banking systems. With millions of customers, Santander Consumer Bank is today one of the major retail banks in Germany.

Tipp24

For the lottery provider Tipp24 we built high-availability load balancing across data centres and internal tools for cluster management, and contributed the know-how for the hosting and operations concept. Lotto, GlücksSpirale, Oddset and class lotteries can be played there around the clock throughout Germany.

Lucky TV

For Lucky TV, too, we implemented high-availability load balancing across data centres with cluster management and developed the hosting and operations concept.

HanseNet / Alice

HanseNet, later Alice, was one of the leading regional telephone companies in Germany until 2011. Customers with a DSL connection could choose their own domain in the web frontend, and our systems took care of the rest: for hostmaster operations we developed a toolset for DNS automation and registry integration that automated most of the routine work.

Sport1

Together with e-Spirit AG we introduced the FirstSpirit content management system for Sport1 Digital.

Singtel Optus

For the Australian telecommunications provider Singtel Optus we developed a dedicated platform for bulk MMS delivery. With minimal hardware requirements, the software delivered thousands of MMS per second.

MMN

For MMN GmbH we developed a community and one of the first Ajax-based chat applications for mobile devices, integrated into the mobile portal of Vodafone D2.

DB Systems, today DB Systel, is the IT and telecommunications service provider of Deutsche Bahn. We consulted on system administration and supported system migrations.

IHG Logistics

For the logistics service provider IHG we developed an operations and monitoring concept for the production Oracle databases and implemented comprehensive Nagios monitoring for the heterogeneous server landscape.

Cognis

The Cognis Group was spun off from the chemicals division of Henkel KGaA in 1999. For Cognis Deutschland we connected RSA token authentication to an internal application.
